Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen at Alder Hey Children's NHS FT for a skilled, experienced, and motivated Band 5 Medical Engineer.
The role is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) position within the Medical Engineering department. The department consists of electronic and mechanical engineers, equipment library staff, and an administration team.
To be considered for the Band 5 Medical Engineer role, candidates will be educated to degree level or equivalent, with further specialist Medical Device technical training, largely provided by original equipment manufacturers as well as several years experience of in maintaining high-risk medical equipment, preferably in a healthcare environment
You will be educated to HNC/D level or equivalent with several years' medical device or other complex electronic/ electrical equipment maintenance experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
PLEASE NOTE: There is a requirement for an on-site practical test at the interview which you must be able to attend to be considered for the post.

Main duties of the job
To display a high personal standard in respect of self-discipline and attitude to work, in view of both the complex nature of equipment on which they may be working and the requirement to liaise with other healthcare professionals, patients, carers, clients, and external organisations.
To commission, repair, maintain, overhaul, recalibrate, and decommission a wide range of medical equipment including life support, patient monitoring, IV Therapy, patient therapy, diagnostic, ventilators, pathology, radiology, pharmacy and anaesthetic equipment used within the medical field, most of which will be highly complex and non-routine.
To regularly work on equipment, which may be 'patient connected' in areas including Intensive care, HDU & theatres as well as being able to work across the whole range of specialties and disciplines. Some of this equipment may be connected via medical information networks and/or driven by computer-based software systems

All candidates will be required to work along-side other healthcare professionals as part of a highly effective, multi-disciplinary team in order to deliver a safe and effective equipment management service. You will be supported in this position by the way of specialist training and development to build your skills, knowledge and experience with the potential for further opportunities within the department.
As a member of a multi-disciplined team of technicians you will be required to work without supervision. Duties will include the maintenance and the fault rectification of highly complex medical equipment; including life-support, patient monitoring, IV Therapy, patient therapy, diagnostic, ventilators, pathology, radiology, pharmacy and anaesthetic equipment, which at times will be 'patient connected'.
