Accident & Emergency Receptionist
Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust is one of Europe's largest and busiest children's hospitals, providing care for over 200,000 children each year. We are looking to recruit experienced reliable, flexible and caring people into the role of A&E Receptionistinto the busy and demanding Emergency Department within the Division of Medicine.
The Emergency Department is a 24/7 environment and has circa 60,000 attendances per year. The team care for children and young people aged 0-16 years who can present with minor illness or injury to major trauma cases. Alder Hey ED is a North West Paediatric Trauma centre.
We are looking for caring, organised and well-motivated people who can empathise with parents and families at a difficult time. The ideal candidates will have excellent customer service experience and be able to work well within a team.
The successful candidates will be required to work flexibly across the department as and when necessary. This will require the candidate to be flexible to work 24/7.
Main duties of the job
Provide reception services for patients, staff, public, internal and external persons and organisations. Ensuring appropriate action is taken and any disabilities, cultural and language barriers are supported by appropriate tools and methods.
Too accurately record new and follow up A&E attendances as well as admit patients via the Meditech system. Updating and revising information where necessary, ensuring sensitivity when dealing with complex distressing situations. Ensure that the process for Child Protection Information Sharing is followed at all times.
Effectively deal with all enquiries, via the phone and fax with regards to patients, staff, internal and external agencies, with the exception of medical advice. Ensure confidentiality is upheld at all times.
Accurately record information for clinics via Meditech outpatient module. Negotiating date/time with parent/carer and cancelling and rebooking appointments when appropriate and ensuring all relevant clinic documentation is pulled and retrieved prior to clinic appointment. Ensure clinic outcomes are recorded and patients are booked in and out of clinic.
Admit patients who have been transferred from other hospitals direct to the wards over the phone, ensuring data is recorded accurately and liaise with bed management and ward staff as required.

Maintain an effective filing system within the department. Scan and retrieve A&E documentation using document image processing software. Print, photocopy and collate appropriate documentation as and when required.
Undertake any other duties as appropriate to the grade as delegated by the Department Manager.
