Job summary

  • The role will support the Service Improvement & Costing Accountant and and play a key role in the continuous improvement of costing information in the Trust, making it more comprehensive, accurate, and efficient to produce.
  • They will work independently on a number of aspects of the costing process, such as ensuring data requirements are reflected in the costing system; interpreting and implementing national costing standards around areas such as overheads; and running the costing model on a quarterly basis for internal SLR reporting.
  • They will support the Service Improvement & Costing Accountant in the development of the Trust's SLR reporting process and service engagement; and other ad-hoc costing-related projects as required.
  • They will be crucial in supporting in the production of regular SLR / PLICS reports, annual mandatory national costing returns such as the National Cost Collection (NCC) and Costing Assessment Tool (CAT), as well as varied ad hoc costing information as required by a wide range of stakeholders.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the production and distribution of the Service Line Reporting (SLR) reports for the Trust.
  • Support with the accurate and timely production of the Trust's National Cost Collection (NCC) submission, ensuring they are prepared in line with NHS guidance and in accordance with specified submission timetables.
  • Assist in the production and analysis of costing data, including service reviews. This will involve working with a range of stakeholders to gain a shared understanding of clinical practice and agree, implement, and monitor actions. The purpose of these is to improve value for patients and their families.
  • Deal with ad hoc costing requests and liaise with key stakeholders including clinicians, service managers, Finance, Informatics, HR and provide them with good quality costing information.
  • Maintain, refine, and develop processes within the costing system including complex cost apportionments in line with the Approved Costing Guidance.
  • Assist in the completion of other costing returns such as the Costing Assessment Tool (CAT) and other ad hoc benchmarking exercises.
  • Remain up to date with national costing standards and how they affect the Trust.
  • Liaise with Informatics to ensure the timely production of data feeds into the PLICS system, ensuring they are compliant with requirements of the Costing Transformation Programme (CTP).
  • To perform any other duties as may be delegated from time to time.

  • The post holder will liaise with the Informatics Team to ensure the timely production of data feeds into the PLICS system, ensuring they are compliant with requirements of the Costing Transformation Programme (CTP).

  • Part-qualified accountant (CIMA, CIPFA, ACCA or equivalent professional accountancy qualification, to post-graduate diploma level).

  • Experience in a financial management or analytical role
  • Experience of dealing with, managing and interpreting large datasets
