Job Summary: The quality assurance and education nurse will assist the Lead Nurse for Quality Improvement & Education (QIE), to evaluate quality of patient care, monitor compliance of Quality Indicators (QI) & assist the PICU Education team to ensure practice is evidence based. The postholder will be responsible for auditing, monitoring performance against national and international standards and support the QIE Lead Nurse to implement Quality Improvement projects and have an active role in providing education and training within PICU as a member of the Education Team.
Main duties of the job
Job Information : The postholder will work closely with the Lead Nurse QIE on Quality Improvement projects and be responsible for monitoring and auditing compliance of key QI's, reporting findings to the PICU multidisciplinary team and assist in the implementation of best practice and evidenced based through education and training staff. The postholder will monitor and review clinical competency, ensure adherence to Trust and national polices, prevention of adverse events and promote infection control.

Main duties and Responsibilities
- Improving patient and family experience through evaluating and measuring service delivery.
- Compliance monitoring and evaluation of safety bundles including CLABSI; VAP; and other hospital acquired infections as per Quality Indicators.
- Provide education and training of evidence-based safety bundles which are proven to reduce PICU stay and improve patient outcomes.
- Work closely with critical incident team to identify and target areas for improvement.
- Assis the Lead Nurse QIE in the development of quality improvement projects.
- Ensure national standards are adhered to across PICU and remain upto date on relevant standards.
- Education and training of PICU staff on quality assurance.
- Champion adverse events reporting system to improve reporting amongst clinical staff to ensure they feel safe to report adverse and near miss-events.
- Conduct root cause analyses for clinical adverse events and near miss events, formulating a plan to reduce risk & action plan.
- Actively involved in the PICU simulation program, understanding human factors and its impact upon patient safety.
- Contribute to the Paediatric Critical Care education programmes.
Communication
Ability to communicate effectively within the PICU MDT and present findings of quality assurance monitoring and audits of QIs.
Attend and contribute to the Trust patient safety meetings.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written information to the MDT, patients and families.
Analytical skills
Responsible for the evaluation of quality assurance within PICU, analysis of collected data to ensure adherence to trust policies and procedures in addition to benchmarking in line with national guidelines.
Keep accurate and timely electronic records using appropriate software.
Planning and organising skills
