Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital

Clinical Fellow in Cardiac Electrophysiology

The closing date is 17 September 2025

Job summary

This post is for a Clinical Fellow in Cardiology with a special interest in cardiac electrophysiology. This post is ideally suited to a senior trainee in electrophysiology who wishes to consolidate their knowledge and increase their experience before taking up a consultant post. Applications would also be welcomed from individuals with less experience who are committed to a career in cardiac electrophysiology. The appointee will be expected to have some experience in the performance of modern cardiac electrophysiology procedures, as well as basic proficiency in bradycardia device and ICD implants and troubleshooting.

Main duties of the job

The post is full time at the Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. The successful applicant will work with the ten electrophysiologists at the trust. There will be exposure to all aspects of clinical cardiac electrophysiology. Outpatient work will involve assessment and management of arrhythmias, including assessment of patients and families of patients with genetically inherited arrhythmias. The appointee will be jointly responsible for management of patients transferred to the CTC with life threatening or incessant arrhythmias and for patients developing arrhythmia following cardiothoracic surgery or PCI procedures.

The successful candidate will receive intensive training in all aspects of interventional cardiac electrophysiology, including electrophysiological diagnosis and ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias, paroxysmal and persistent atrial fibrillation, ischaemic and non-ischaemic ventricular tachycardia. This will include the use of advanced mapping system CARTO and integration with CT and MRI images (CARTO-MERGE). There will also be some opportunity to train in bradycardia pacing, ICD and CRT implantation and troubleshooting.
