We have an exciting opportunity for a band 3 Switchboard operative to join our team.

27 hours per week on a 3 week rota.

Main duties of the job

  • Responsible for the effective and efficient operation of the electronic ARC Switchboard system and processing external and internal calls in a courteous, friendly and efficient manner. To use initiative and understanding when dealing with callers who may be extremely distressed and / or verbally abusive and threatening behaviour.

  • To deal with calls regarding assessments referrals from a variety of external sources such as GP'S, other hospital personnel.

  • Responsible to communicate with all staff disciplines such as consultants, Hospital coordinators, Department managers, Leads for Nursing services, Exec level in a professional manner providing clear and concise information as and when required.

  • Responsible for operating the emergency paging system to locate staff as and when required.

  • Responsible for quick and efficient response to dealing cardiac arrest alerts via, activate the emergency cardiac arrest process to inform the team of emergency and location using the voice over paging system
    • Responsible for monitoring emergency alarm panels such as Medical Gases, Fire systems, responding quickly and efficiently to activate emergency process in line with trust policy/procedures

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Responsible for monitoring emergency alarm panels such as Medical Gases, Fire systems, responding quickly and efficiently to activate emergency process in line with trust policy/procedures

  • Responsible for testing emergency paging system for all emergency systems, also reporting any faults or concerns with any emergency systems.

  • Responsible for reporting faults/concerns with the Switchboard electronic ARC system, in line with the trust Policy and procedures alerting all relevant staff and activating emergency mobile phone roll out system via security and Portering staff.

  • To work unsupervised as and when required and during out of hours shifts, dealing with all aspects of the Telecommunication service during this period.

  • Responsible for activated a number of major incident alerts such as any MI Identified by the Hospital coordinator, the Haemorrhage policy, Haz Alerts and other MIS by adhering to the trust protocols to ensure key staff of all disciplines are contacted to respond.

Responsible for quick and effect response to emergency PPCI call direct from other Hospitals, requesting and recording vital information of the patients condition acutely and ensuring the information is provided to the Medial emergency team.

Responsible for locating/contacting the emergency PPCI Team, out of hours to contact key staff of all disciplines at home or on mobile phones using the on call multidisciplinary on call information lists.

Responsible for utilising the Ambulance services electronic system to estimate the time of arrival of the patient and to ensure the PPCI team are aware of any delays or change in condition of the patient.

  • Responsible for the out of hours on call rotas of multidisciplinary teams, ensuring information is accurate and updated when any changes occur. To adhere to on call processes as set out by each department. Document out of hours requests for various departments on-call staff and escalate to manger any issues experienced or incorrect information being provided by other departments.
