Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a 9 month secondment for a ward sister/charge nurse, on Cedar Ward to cover maternity leave. We are looking for an individual who wants to develop and is looking for an opportunity to do so. We would like the individual to be dynamic, enthusiastic and value the importance of patient-centred care. They must be hard-working and take advantage of this full opportunity to experience management develop their leadership and expert knowledge to support our team to maintain excellent standards of care, whilst, assisting the ward manager in the general running of the ward and to deputise for the ward manager in their absence.

Cedar Ward is a 34 bedded cardiothoracic ward.

We are able to offer a wide range of learning and development experiences and opportunities within a ward environment that is focused on delivering excellent standards of care for our patients.

The candidate must be flexible with working shifts, be able to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and have excellent communication skills.

Main duties of the job

  1. The ward provides challenges and opportunities that will help you develop your skills and gain further experience. We will ensure that you have structured support to be able to achieve your own personal aspirations within the vision of the ward.
  2. Cardiothoracic care is essential for the role . Promoting and delivering exceptional patient care. Leading the ward day to day. Mentoring and supporting the staff on the ward.
  3. Ensuring accurate documentation and risk assessment compliance. Ensuring compliance in mandatory training.
  4. Leading the ward round with the MDT to deliver holistic care to our patients.
  5. Completing audits to manage risk, safety and provide assurance to senior management team. Performing action plans and presentations for incidents that occur.
  6. Supporting the ward manager in the managerial duties.
  7. Have exceptional communication and organisational skills that can assist the day to day running of the ward.
  8. To have a passion in educating other staff and students. To ensure the safety, privacy and dignity of patients at all times.

CLINICAL.

Perform comprehensive assessment of patient nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health care needs and varying levels of complexity.

Collect, collate, evaluate and report information maintaining accurate patient records.

Involve patients and carers/relatives in the planning and delivery of care.

Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements.

Ensure the effective and efficient use of physical and financial resources,

Monitor health, safety and security of self and others and promote/ implements best practice in the ward area.

EDUCATION AND DEVELOPMENT.

Provides and makes effective use of learning and development opportunities for ward team,

Develop own expert clinical knowledge and participate in the development of others.

Ensure own compliance and compliance of others with regard to mandatory training and PREP requirements.

Coordinates and deliver training programmes and promotes an effective clinical learning environment.

Act as a mentor for all nurses in training and newly qualified nurses.

CLINICAL QUALITY.

Assist the ward manager in ward audit and the development and implementation of the ward action plan.

Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines for self and others, participate in the development of same.

Continually monitor standards of care and lead the improvement of care, through the clinical quality monitoring group, audit and research.

Assist patient and public involvement activities in the ward area, leading to service improvement.

Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights and take action when your own or other peoples actions undermine these rights
