The post is suitable for a newly qualified physiotherapist as an Annex 21 (progression to band 6 on completion of competencies) or an existing band 5/6 wishing to specialise in respirator care.

Knowsley Community Respiratory Service (KCRS) provides support for people in the borough of Knowsley for a wide variety of chronic respiratory disease. The service provides community diagnostics and multi-professional consultant lead clinics, admission avoidance, pulmonary rehabilitation, home oxygen services, palliative support, smoking cessation and psychology support. The service is an award winning service with a good track record of supporting staff to develop and progress.
Main duties of the job
This varied post covers the following main areas:
- Delivery and running of pulmonary rehabilitation services, including assessment of new patients, exercise prescription and progression and education session.
- Input into the Admission Avoidance service - this includes management of acute chest clearance, management of acute exacerbations of COPD and bronchiectasis.
- Issuing of PGD's to support acute management and to avoid hospital admissions
- Routine chest clearance assessment and treatments
- Breathlessness management assessment and treatment, including management of breathing pattern disorders
- Assessment and prescription of ambulatory oxygen
- Nebuliser challenges - including hypertonic saline and antibiotics

JOB SUMMARY Provide specialist physiotherapy service for patients with respiratory disease to the Knowsley Community Respiratory Service, including Pulmonary Rehabilitation, Chest clearance, Rapid Response. The service provides seven-day cover for acutely unwell patients including over night on-call Provide supervision and education for physiotherapy staff, physiotherapy undergraduates and nursing & AHP staff. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. To provide a physiotherapy service to the Knowsley Community Respiratory Team ensuring high quality, timely and evidence-based care to patients. 2. To timely assess, plan, treat and review respiratory and physiotherapy needs of patients within the community setting, including the assessment of pulmonary rehabilitation and breathlessness management support. 3. To prescribe and deliver appropriate pulmonary rehabilitation exercise and classes in the community setting. 4. To provide advice to patients, families and other health professionals with regard to physiotherapy. 5. To support senior staff in service development. 6. To work closely with outside agencies to ensure service delivery. 6. To maintain patient records accurately and legibly in accordance with professional and trust guidelines. 7. Communicate effectively with all members of the MDT regarding the management of patients. 8. Supervise and monitor the assessment and treatment plans of junior staff & undergraduates. 9. To participate in rapid response service covering evenings. 10. To provide a physiotherapeutic service over seven days and overnight on-call (telephone support only). 11. To provide appropriate ambulatory oxygen assessment and prescription of oxygen therapy. 12. To provide timely and appropriate assessment and treatment for patients requiring support with chest clearance and breathlessness management, including using appropriate adjuncts this includes routine and urgent, including appropriate PGD use. 13.
