Job summary
You will join the course at Level 5, and study alongside second year (Level 5) students on the standard three-year BSc (Hons) Nursing programmes with John Moores University.
As a nursing student, you will be required to complete both theory andclinical practice. This means that you will have seven weeks holiday a year, and may have to attend sessions outside the normal university hours of 9am to 5pm.
Blocks of academic study can be up to six weeks depending on what point in the programme you are at. Underpinning all aspects of the training offered is a commitment to ethical and anti-oppressive values, values and principles of the NHS Constitution and Professional Body requirements.
On the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult), you will gain the skills, experience and confidence to be an effective Band 5 registered nurse.
Pay will be at band 4 whist completing the programme. On successful completion of the course pay will be at registered band 5 nurse.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver high quality, compassionate care under the direction of the nursing team and mentor with a focus on promoting health and independence;
- Work as part of a designated clinical and care team delivering care that focuses on the direct needs of the individual;
- Carry out delegated clinical and care tasks to a high standard and competency, under supervision of a registered nurse or other registered care professional.
- Build their confidence and competence in their work through working with a mentor to take responsibility for developing own clinical competence, leadership and reflective practice skills within the workplace, while on placements and through attending the BSc (Hons) Nursing (Adult) programme.
- Develop, by the end of the Training Programme, the ability to work without direct supervision, at times delivering care independently in line with the individual’s defined plan of care, within the parameters of practice of a band 5 registered Nurse, gaining the confidence and skills to:
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of evidence- based care (according to specialism).
- Assist in the management and organisation of a clinical area.
- Contribute to the development and supervision of other staff members.
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families in line with patient and family centred care.

- To work with the Registered Nurse and other members of the multi professional team, providing and monitoring care and contributing to the ongoing assessment, as agreed with supervising clinician(s) and in line with the service pathways.
