Main duties of the job
There
has been a major increase in the imaging service in recent years. LHCH is one of the highest volume centres for
cardiac MRI and CT. As a specialist cardiothoracic centre we are fortunate to
have dedicated cardiac MRI and CT scanners within the joint department of
medical imaging. The cardiologists and radiologists work as one integrated,
efficient team, each benefitting from the others expertise and knowledge. The
department has a dedicated Siemens AERA 1.5T cardiac MRI and Siemens Definition
Flash CT scanner.
The echocardiography department has six
echocardiography machines, dedicated reporting and scanning rooms, a stress
echocardiogram lab that includes treadmill and bike stress equipment.
Transoesophageal echocardiography occurs in a purpose-built endoscopy suite.
The department has Advanced British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) Accreditation
for training, stress, TOE and adult echocardiography. There is the new regional adult congenital
heart disease service (ACHD) which is being integrated into the imaging department.
There is
a significant commitment to multidisciplinary team working, as the imaging
service plays an essential role in the TAVI, ICC, ACHD, mitral and aortic
surgery programmes. There is a mini mitral and robotic mitral surgery
programme, as well as complex quaternary aortic surgery that provide national
and international services.
