Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to work within a busy and progressive cardiac diagnostics department. The majority of work will be performing 12-Lead ECG's at both LHCH and community venues, along with fitting / removal of ambulatory ECG and blood pressure devices.

Main duties of the job

1To record ECGs in designated places throughout LHCH and community venues.

2To comply with departmental policy ensuring optimal quality recordings.

3Demonstrates empathy when dealing with patients in distressing conditions.

4To be proficient at basic ECG interpretation.

5To ensure that all data both self-recorded and non-self-recorded is appropriately archived in line with departmental procedures.

6Perform Ambulatory and BP Monitoring Hook up.

7Assist / perform basic administrative duties.

8Assists in monitoring and maintaining quality of services within Cardiac diagnostics.

9Ensures that individual own level of practice is kept up to date with current developments in the field of Cardiology.

10Attach/removal and downloading of Ambulatory Monitoring equipment.

11To communicate effectively with patients.

12To communicate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

13To ensure correct maintenance and cleaning of equipment adhering to the Trust and departmental policies.

14Active involvement in risk assessment, Health & Safety, Infection control.

15Help in maintaining appropriate stock control.

16Acquire / Maintain BLS resuscitation competence.

2Actively promotes Cardiac Diagnostics (ECG Dept), inside and outside the trust.

3Ensures that clinical governance and clinical risk management are integrated into systems of patient care.

4Participate in service development/training initiatives with colleagues.

5Contributes and aids implementation of departmental policies & procedures.

6Ensure that confidentiality of patients records is strictly maintained and complies with the Data Protection Act.

7Recognise peoples equality, diversity and rights.

8Feedback information on complaints / accidents / incidents to the PCP.

9Communicates with other departments involved in supporting the service (I.e. domestics, porters, etc.)

EDUCATION / DEVELOPMENT

1To attend and complete In House ATO Training programme.

2To be trained in using the Zio Holter ECG system.

3To participate if required in teaching practical ECG skills to ATOs & Trainee CP, Medical and Nursing staff.

4To support basic interpretation training to the above mentioned groups

5To undertake mandatory training in line with departmental and Trust policies.

6To undertake relevant training / workshop sessions as identified on performance review for continuing professional development.

7Works towards Acquisition of SCST certificate in electrocardiography.

HEALTH & SAFETY

1All staff will:

Have responsibility for the safe management of the department and ensure the safety of others affected by the departments activities.

Liaise with the Trust adviser and ensure that any advice is implemented.

Ensure the Trust and departmental safety policies, arrangements, assessments etc. are maintained and made available for staff and that they are adhered to.

Identify and assess risks to themselves and others.

Carry out safety inspections and ensure remedial actions are taken.

Ensure accidents are reported and recorded.

Report to their line managers any identified actions to ensure Health and Safety that cannot be affected within their resources.
