Job summary
Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is looking to appoint a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon in to a substantive post; the appointed individual will have an off-pump sub-specialist skillset and be expected to work within a dynamic group of surgeons who deliver a comprehensive breadth of cardiac surgical activity with numerous sub-specialist areas of interest. Opportunities to expand surgical repertoire will be available in the future aligned to Trust objectives.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to join Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, rated Outstanding by the CQC in 2016 and 2019. The hospital is one of the largest stand-alone trusts of its kind in the UK providing specialist cardiothoracic services for the North West of England (2.8 million pop.) with 16 cardiac surgeons delivering around 2,000 cases per year, through 8 operating theatres and a large critical care area with 30 beds. The Trust is committed to supporting all service lines through strategies for research, innovation and quality improvement.

The job is intended to be a full time (12.25 PA)
post in general cardiac surgery at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital. An off
pump coronary artery surgical practice is desired alongside the potential for further
sub-specialty development in line with future advances and requirements of the
Trust.
The draft job plan is outlined under the terms and
conditions section. On-call for Cardiac Surgery is a 1 in 10 rota with a category
B frequency payment.
The successful candidate will have full secretarial
support, a personal computer and office accommodation in line with other
consultants in the unit.
There is a significant commitment to audit and a
training commitment towards the junior doctors in cardiac surgical training
The trust supports the annual appraisal process and
routine GMC revalidation for all consultants and all consultants undergo an
annual job plan. The appointee will be
expected to work flexibly based on the needs of the Surgical Division and the
Trust. The workload will be driven by
the job planning process and be reviewed and changed appropriate to the
requirements of the Trust by the Surgical Clinical Lead with the Divisional
Head of Operations with ratification by the Medical Director. It should be noted that full mentorship /
preceptorship will be provided to the successful candidate.

professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and surgical colleges
and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
