Job summary

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated staff to join our highly skilled teams. We have opportunities available at Band 5 Scrub Nursing Team and for both Nurses and ODP's at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital

We have 8 cardiac/thoracic theatres, a pacing theatre, endoscopy room and a recovery unit and a fantastic team of theatre nurses and ODP's. We are incredibly busy following the Covid-19 pandemic with both elective and emergency pathways and cover various specialities including Cardiac, Thoracic, Aortic, Vascular, ACHD, etc.

Main duties of the job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for you to join a highly motivated multidisciplinary team delivering patient centred care, with emphasis on quality and patient safety. You will specialise in the scrub practitioner role in our busy theatre unit. Our theatre team is committed to ensuring that staff are trained to meet the demands of their role through a competency based training programme. We have a dedicated Training and Development Officer. We offer a personalised induction programme, supernumerary status for a minimum of three months and clinical courses to help you reach your potential. You will be enthusiastic, motivated and willing to learn a wide range of skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required along with the ability to work as part of a team.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a willingness and capability to learn new skills. A minimum of three months experience in theatre practice is desirable.

Clinical.

Perform Comprehensive assessment of patients perioperative care needs, plan, implement and evaluate care delivery according to changing health needs.

Collect, collate and report information, maintaining accurate patients records in line with NMC / HPC recommendations and Trust policy.

Participate in maintaining a safe, comfortable therapeutic environment for all patients and carers.

Following appropriate induction and training participate in the emergency on call rota under the supervision of a senior nurse/practitioner.

Provide skilled assistance and maintain agreed standards of practice in the perioperative environment in the role of anaesthetic, scrub, recovery and circulating practitioner.

Work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure needs are met in relation to care input and support for ongoing care needs.

Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives consistent with their level of understanding and their culture

Assess the potential risks involved within the scope of work activities, identifying how best to manage the risks

Respect confidential information obtained in the course of professional practice and upholds the principles of Caldicott and the Data Protection Act.

Supervise others and participate in their education and development.

Contribute to the development of services and make realistic suggestions on how services could be improved for patients and their relatives.

Act as a mentor and assessor of nurses/ Operating department practitioners in training and newly qualified nurses/ practitioners.

Participate with patient and public involvement activity in the clinical area, contributing to service improvement.

Acts consistently with policies, procedures and clinical guidelines and encourages others to do so.

Contribute to the contribution audit of care via the clinical quality monitoring group.
