Job summary

Following a workforce review, an opportunity has arisen for a rotational band 6 physiotherapist to join the Therapies Department at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital which has been twice rated as Outstanding by CQC. The post holder will be a senior figure within the teams for providing high quality respiratory care and rehabilitation and be an integrated member of the MDT.

We have a structured training/appraisal programme in place to develop your skills and actively support continuing professional development both individually and as a wider Therapies department.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a motivated physiotherapist with previous experience in a variety of respiratory conditions and on-call service, to join our department.You will gain experience across critical care, surgical and medical wards, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary rehabilitation and our new rotation at Marie Curie Hospice in Woolton. You will be part of the late service and on-call/weekend services. You will be a positive, flexible and forward-thinking individual who can support others and be a positive role model for physiotherapy and AHPs.

RESPONSIBLE FOR: Junior Physiotherapists, Technical Instructors, Physiotherapy Assistants & Undergraduate Physiotherapist.

JOB SUMMARY

  • To be an integral member of the Therapy Team providing specialist physiotherapy care to patients.
  • Provide supervision and education to junior staff and undergraduates.
  • Participate in the late and on call rota.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

CLINICAL

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous specialist practitioner assessor

To be professionally and legally accountable for a designated patient caseload and to decide priorities for own work area, balancing other patient related and professional demands.

To undertake the comprehensive assessment and accurate diagnosis of patients, including those with complex presentations, using investigative, palpatory, analytical and clinical reasoning skills

To undertake physical treatment techniques using highly developed manual skills where appropriate.

To maintain patient records accurately and legibly in accordance with Trust and professional guidelines.

To provide spontaneous and planned advice, teaching and instruction to relatives, carers and other disciplines and agencies to promote understanding of the aims of physiotherapy and ensure continuation of the treatment programme.

To participate in the on call service covering weeknights, weekends and bank holidays and the late service once level of competence has been achieved.

To undertake competency training for specialist physiotherapy equipment.

To provide supervision and education to junior staff and undergraduate physiotherapists.

To provide advice and support to nursing staff regarding specialist physiotherapy equipment.

To communicate with empathy, patient information which may be of a complex and sensitive nature

To acknowledge and support patients, relatives and carers rights by promoting individual choice respecting their beliefs, privacy and dignity at all times.

To participate in the IST programmes for therapy staff

MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP

To deputise for senior staff as required

To contribute to the induction of new staff within the therapy department

To collect & collate patient statistics and support senior staff in maintenance of relevant databases.

To participate in team meeting to ensure the effective exchange of information across the team

To identify and propose service changed for own work area and lead project groups when required

ORGANISATIONAL

To support senior staff in the training of other professionals

To participate in the Trusts appraisal process

PROFESSIONAL

To participate in clinical audit and research.

To participate in continuing professional development as per Trust policy.

To maintain registration with the HCPC.

To perform all duties in accordance with the HCPC & CSP Standards.

QUALITY

Communicate relevant information about patients and their management to relevant clinicians and other appropriate members of the medical staff and health care professional in other NHS Trusts & Community Services.
