Job summary

Radiology Department Assistant (RDA) Band 3 (37.5 hours per week).

We have an exciting opportunity for a Radiology Department Assistant to work across both MRI and CT departments at Liverpool heart and Chest Hospital.

We are looking for a caring, enthusiastic and flexible Radiology Department Assistant (RDA) to join our Cross-Sectional Imaging team here at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate must have previous experience as a Radiology Department Assistant or have at least 5yrs experience as a Health Care Assistant within a similar role.

You will work across both MRI and CT departments; you will be an integral part of a team; committed to delivering the highest quality of clinical care. Main requirements include cannulation, monitoring and undertaking a range of patient observations in the clinical area and report adverse signs to appropriate Radiologist / Cardiologist or Radiographer.

You must have a compassionate and caring attitude, demonstrate excellent communication skills and be able to provide high quality patient care.

Competencies in Cannulation and 12 Lead ECG desirable.

Main duties of the job

As one of our Radiology Assistant you will be expected to:

-Work across both MRI and CT departments

-You will be an integral part of a team

-Committed to delivering the highest quality clinical care.

- Assist patients throughout their time within the department and preparing patients prior to their imaging.

- Assisting the Radiographers in maintaining an efficient daily work list, workflow of patients.

- Deal with service user queries and patient appointments using Radiology IT systems.

- Monitoring and undertaking a range of patient observations in the clinical area.

- Report adverse signs to appropriate Radiologist / Cardiologist or Radiographer.

- Main requirements include cannulation

- Be responsible for stock maintenance and ordering.

POST: CT/MRI Radiology Department Assistant

BANDING: Band 3

RESPNSIBLE TO CT/MR Superintendent Radiographer

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Radiology Manager

JOB SUMMARY

The post holder will participate, as part of the team, in the delivery of clinical care mainly within the CT/MR areas of the Radiology department.

Working to defined protocols the post holder will provide assistance to the imaging team by carrying out, under supervision, basic clinical, general household and clerical duties.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

CLINICAL

1. Provide high quality patient care, appropriate to patient need.

2. Prepare patients for the radiology exam or procedure taking account of patients needs and cultural differences

3. Undertake a range of clinical tasks/ procedures relevant to area of work e.g. venepuncture, cannulation as required for patients undergoing CT and MR examination

4. Undertake a range of patient observations as required in the clinical area e.g. pulse, respiration, blood pressure, oxygen saturation levels, ECG and report adverse signs to appropriate Radiologist / Radiographer.

5. Produce high quality 12 Lead ECG as and when required

6. Escort / transport patients within the Department chaperoning where necessary and be responsible for patient comfort and wellbeing.

7. Assist patients in maintaining their personal hygiene, and dressing needs with respect for culture and religious needs ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.

8. Assist patients on and off the x-ray tables.

9. Take personal responsibility for ensuring that patients are treated with courtesy at all times, the individual needs of the patients are respected, and confidentiality is maintained at all times.

10. To communicate effectively with patients by listening to their concerns reassuring them by giving information and where appropriate communicating information to other members of the Directorate team..

11. Co-operate with and provide assistance where possible to all medical, nursing and other hospital staff.

12. Measure, record and monitor patients physiological readings as required

13. Prepare medical trolleys for sterile procedures and clear away after use.

14. Assist in the cleaning/infection control measures of scanners at the end of day and after contamination from infectious patients

15. Assist in the monitoring and replenishment of stock levels as required

16. To participate in a rotation through all areas of the x-ray department as required.

17. To participate in the modernisation of radiology services

18. Use of IT. Communicate effectively using computer systems within the Trust. Systems used in the department includes CRIS

19. Ensure the safe custody of patients valuables and property.

20. Contribute to the provision of a safe environment for all patients, relatives, friends and hospital visitors.

RADIATION PROTECTION/MR SAFETY

1. To work with radiographic protocols and policies as required under the ionising regulations and to comply with IR(ME)R 2000 and IRR99.

2. To comply with MR safety regulations as required in the MR scanning suite

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE/ QUALITY

1. To comply with the Health & Safety Policies of the Trust including attendance at mandatory training sessions as specified.

2. To comply with departmental and organisational policies and procedures including the reporting of all accidents and incidents.

3. To ensure that potential hazards are identified and reported to the correct authority as necessary.

4. To observe patient confidentiality all times and to comply with the data protection act and Caldicott recommendations.

5. All employees of the Trust are required to carry out their duties with due regard to the fair access policy and respect the culture beliefs and customs held by clients and staff.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

1. To actively participate in the in-service training programme within the department standard.
