Job summary

Following internal promotions, the opportunity has arisen for 2 band 5 physiotherapists to join the Therapies Department at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital which has been twice rated as Outstanding by CQC.

The successful candidate will need to be an autonomous practitioner, able to manage a defined caseload, using evidence based/patient centred principles to assess, plan and deliver individualised treatment programmes. The post holder will need to be an effective communicator and keen team member. Regular training, support and clinical supervision is provided, Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital is committed to improving working lives.

Main duties of the job

You will gain experience within critical care, surgery, medicine, cystic fibrosis and pulmonary rehabilitation within LHCH and opportunities to rotate into community areas with Mersey-care Community Trust including musculo-skeletal, paediatrics, stroke rehabilitation.

Full training and support is provided to fulfil overnight on-call and weekend working duties.

Job responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

To perform physiotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with diverse and complex clinical presentations, to provide a physiotherapy diagnosis and to develop and deliver a patient focused treatment programme.

To participate in the on call and evening rota.

To be responsible for own caseload working without direct supervision as an autonomous practitioner, receiving regular clinical supervision and a programme of training.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • CLINICAL
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including the management of the patients in your care
  • To undertake an assessment of patients , using clinical reasoning skills and manual techniques to provide a physiotherapy diagnosis of their condition
  • To formulate and deliver individual and group physiotherapy treatment programmes based upon knowledge of the evidence of the treatment options available.
  • To evaluate patients’’ progress, reassess and alter treatment programmes if required, developing reflective practice.
  • To be responsible for planning and prioritising own case load.
  • To take delegated responsibility from senior colleagues for managing and treating patients with particular conditions in each rotation.
  • To represent physiotherapy at MDT meetings and discussion patient care, progress and be involved in discharge planning.
  • Encourage patients and carers in an active approach to regaining and maintaining independence.
  • To be highly skilled in communicating with patients of all ages who have range of physical and psychological barriers to understanding.
  • To manage clinical risk within own patient case load
  • To work within Trust and CSP clinical guidelines and have a working knowledge of national and local standards and monitor own quality of practice
  • Following completion of respiratory care competencies, to work on the emergency duty rota.
