As a result of investment and restructure within the service, we are looking to recruit highly motivated and enthusiastic B6 Clinical Coding Delivery Manager to join our Trust.

Your role will include responsibilities for the day-to-day management of Clinical Coding staff to ensure all coding is completed timely and accurately for SUS deadlines and support Payment by Results with the assistance of all colleagues.The post holder will be responsible for ensuring provision of an optimum clinical coding service across Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

In addition, the post holder will be responsible for management of any coding queriesand, together with the Management team, they willbe proactive in liaising withclinicians and other Trust staff to review and discuss coding.

Applicants will be expected to work across any of the locations under MWL.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will provide operational delivery management support, both generally and for specific time-limited projects to the Clinical Coding Manager. The Clinical Coding Delivery Team Manager will have day-to-day responsibility for the management of clinical coding staff, providing leadership and guidance to ensure that patient activity data is fully and accurately coded within mandated timescales, whilst adhering to national and local standards.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day processes needed to support the operational delivery of the clinical coding service, such as, but not limited to, the management of Teams channels andreview of rotas, etc.
  • Contributes, as a member of the Clinical Coding Department, to extract and analyse highly complex/sensitive patient data from all patient clinical records and to identify and select theappropriate diagnosis/procedure in line with current National guidelines. Judgement would need to be applied with regards to the translation of complex cases whilst ensuring accuracy.

  • Responsible for planning own workload and that of the clinical coding team to ensure that the objectives of the whole team are achieved.
  • Take responsibility for keeping up to date with current issues and developments within the coding department.

  • Ensure that all clinical coding is completed accurately and timely in accordance with national and contractual mandates and is delivered to the required quality and coverage. Provide regular updates to the Clinical Coding Manager on progress throughout the month.

  • Accredited Clinical Coding Qualification (ACC)
  • Degree level education or equivalent experience
  • Managerial qualification or equivalent experience

  • Has completed the Clinical Coding Standards Refresher course within the last 12 months

  • Can demonstrate 'standards exceeded' coding accuracy levels as set out in the Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT)
  • Knowledge of national benchmarking systems relevant to clinical coding, eg HED and metrics such as SHMI/HSMR

  • Experience of undertaking presentations relating to clinical coding

  • Excellent medical terminology and anatomy and physiology knowledge
