This post is for a consultant in General and Upper GI Surgery.
This is a whole-time 10 PA permanent contract offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Applicants are required to hold Fellowship of the Royal College ofSurgeons (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their Entry on the Specialty register via CCT or CESR (CP) within six months of the date of interview.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to work within a busy general surgical department.
They will participate in a general surgical on call rota currently at the Whiston site which currently stands at 1 in 9 and includes prospective cover. We currently run a 24 hour on call for consultants, during which time elective activity is cancelled.
They will provide elective general and advanced benign upper GI services and help in developing new services. Elective workload will include General Upper GI procedures and advanced laparoscopic procedures like Hiatus hernia repair, laparoscopic anti reflux procedures, Laparoscopic hernia repairs. There will be provision to develop specialist interest in advanced laparoscopic procedures.
The department has plans for expansion and the development of new services e.g., laparoscopic bile duct exploration. The post holder will be expected to contribute towards this objective.
