36 hour contract

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Children's nurse to work in our Paediatric Accident & Emergency Department in Ormskirk Hospital.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Children's nurse, who is an excellent role model, self-motivated and committed to the delivery of high standards of quality care. A commitment to staff development and training is essential.

If you are an experienced Children's nurse with a background in acute Paediatric nursing, committed to providing high quality care and would like to further develop your existing clinical and management skills whilst supporting both senior and junior colleagues in a supportive team, this position could be for you.

You must have post registration clinical experience within a Children's Accident & Emergency Department environment or transferable skills and evidence of proven leadership in that area. The post is shift work, rotational to night duty and the ability to work as part of a team is essential. This post will be subject to an Enhanced DBS (with barred list for children disclosure)

Main duties of the job

  • Provide leadership, management and team development as delegated by the Department/Ward Manager to the team, allocating workloads.
  • Contribute to setting goals and benchmarking standards of care. Develop tools to improve the quality of the service and co-ordinate clinical services across the ward.
  • To co-ordinate and manage patient flow within the unit including timely admission and discharge, ensuring national targets are met where possible.
  • To promote the unit and the Trust as a whole in the most positive manner to patients, relatives and the local population.
  • To have knowledge of relevant national and local health policies and their impact on the service.
  • To inform/escalate to Department/Ward Manager / Matron if acceptable levels of care, standards, practice and patient safety is compromised and develop appropriate actions
  • To assist and or lead in the development/implementation of local and trust policies and protocols relevant to the specialty, ensuring effective implementation in local area.
  • To manage control and quality of levels of stock and equipment within the clinical and non-clinical areas and promote and ensure economic use of all resources

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
