To be part of a welcoming team of Clinic Clerks working in sensitive settings dealing with patients in a confidential manner.
To welcome and accept clients into the Sexual Health Clinics. Clinics are predominantly 'drop-in' sessions and this will entail dealing with an unknown number of clients attending the clinic. To monitor the number of clients in attendance, and taking appropriate action if number of clients in attendance is excessive.
A Standard DBS is required for this post.
The JD & PS are currently under AfC review and are subject to change.
Main duties of the job
- To welcome and accept clients into the Sexual Health Clinics. Clinics are predominantly 'drop-in' sessions and this will entail dealing with an unknown number of clients attending the clinic. To monitor the number of clients in attendance, and taking appropriate action if number of clients in attendance is excessive.
- Deal effectively with telephone and face-to-face enquiries, providing a non-judgmental, sympathetic and equitable service to all clients.
- Provide non-clinical advice to clients on service issues; communicate messages to team members and signpost clients if necessary.
- Prepare reception area for clinic opening and lock up in evenings where necessary.
- To provide cover for sickness and leave in all clinics, this will involve travel across St Helens.
- Check Outlook and disseminate emails appropriately.
- To book Language Interpreters when needed.
- Act as a first point of contact for clients attending clinic. Hand out triage slips and registration forms to attending clients.
- Book in clients onto Lilie computer system, enter new clients onto Lilie computer system ensuring high level of accuracy when entering client details to ensure personal information is correctly recorded/updated and easily retrieved.

- Receive, disseminate and file incoming and outgoing mail.
- Receive cytology and laboratory tests. Place results and records with record book and bring to the attention of the doctor or nurse prior to tests being filed in client records.
- Scan cytology and laboratory test reports into Lilie system in paperless clinics.
- Ensure client confidentiality is maintained at all times.
- Accurately record patient activity in accordance with departmental procedure.
- Respond calmly to difficult situations e.g. distressed clients/carers, verbal aggression.
- Close down reception area at end of clinic ensuring files, paperwork, etc are secured away as necessary.

- Attend mandatory training as specified by the Trust.
- Induct and mentor new starters
- Participate in the Performance and Development Review (PDR) process.
- Attend away day seminars, training courses and service meetings as and when required to enhance working performance

- Participate in any service audit as required.
- Accurately record patient activity in accordance with departmental procedure
- Accurately record the transfer or patient notes in and out of clinic using the Lilie computer system and manual recording where appropriate.
