Job summary
This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Respiratory Medicine. This is a full time, permanent post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.
Successful candidates will help us build on our excellent reputation for delivering high quality patient care with the opportunity to work with a range of respiratory inpatients including those requiring acute NIV, as well as the opportunity to gain valuable experience in respiratory outpatient clinics and procedures including bronchoscopy and pleural procedures.
Main duties of the job
The respiratory department has a total of 30 inpatient beds on one ward; 14b. The physician appointed to this post will deliver daily sessions of care to respiratory inpatients on the wards above on a rotational basis. Ward 14b houses the respiratory support unit for up to 6 patients and can provide respiratory support including, NIV, CPAP, and high flow nasal oxygen therapy.
The unit is supported by a well-trained respiratory nurse team and is consultant lead 7 days a week. In the Respiratory department model of care 4 full time Respiratory Consultants are available Monday-Friday to provide inpatient and outpatient care.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

- Clinical training and experience in order to manage/supervise and/or offer expert clinical opinion on patients presenting to the Respiratory department
- Ability to take responsibility for clinical care of patients within the Respiratory department
Desirable
- Ability to perform ultrasound guided procedures independently (pleural ultrasound)
- Ability to perform bronchoscopy
