Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Mersey Regional Plastic Surgery Team as a Sister/Charge Nurse in the Plastic Surgery Day Case unit at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals with a base location at Southport Hospital.

The Plastic Day Surgery Unit at Southport Hospital is a relatively new development and is part of the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Directorate based at Whiston Hospital and consists of a minor ops theatre and a pre and post op area with 4 reclining chairs.

The unit provides an excellent service for patients undergoing surgery to remove cancerous or benign lesions under local anaesthetic as a day case procedure.

The hours of work will be 37.5 per week, Monday to Thursday, work pattern will be agreed with the successful post holder on appointment.

An Enhanced DBS Certificate with the checking of both the Children's and Adults' Barred Lists is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

The post holder is designated to take charge and lead a team of nursing staff at band 5 level and below and set and maintain delivery of quality care. The band 6 is expected to maintain the care standards and to foster close working relationships within the multidisciplinary team.

The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day management of the day case area, dressing clinic, assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care within the Plastic Surgery Day Case Unit based at Southport Hospital.

The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures and supervise both registered and non-registered staff.

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate skills in communication, coordination of care and an ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team.
