Job summary
The Screening Nurse will work within the Health Work and Wellbeing (HWWB) service providing impartial, evidence based, confidential, pro-active Health, Work and Wellbeing services that support the Lead Employer, trust staff, and external customers. You will support the HWWB team in providing effective, appropriate needs based occupational health activities aimed at optimising health and preventing work related ill health. The post holder must provide a proactive evidence based health and well-being service for all members of staff, working to national guidelines and benchmarks in order to maintain staff well-being both physical and psychological.

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work within clearly defined occupational health procedures, conferring with senior colleagues when appropriate
- To support the organisation with the pre-employment screening of staff
- Work unsupervised within limits of competency
- Adhere to approved Patient Group Directions for administration of medicines/vaccines
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records, (both electronic and written)
- Apply occupational health knowledge, principles and practice to assess both at pre-employment and during employment, the effects of an individuals health on the work to be undertaken and the impact of the known risks of the work on their health, giving due consideration to legislation such as the Equality Act (2010)
- Undertake the Duty Nurse role.
- Undertake health surveillance and interpret the results in line with Trust Policy, national legislation and Department of Health guidance, using appropriate clinical measurement equipment. Discuss results and implications with the client and liaise with the occupational health senior team, i.e. manager and/or physician where appropriate
- Screen clients in relation to identified infectious disease risk and offer vaccination or advice as appropriate
- Liaise with clients specialist consultants and GPs as required. Confer with Occupational Health Physician or Manager where appropriate. Advise managers regarding clients fitness for work using appropriate certificates and formal reports
- Undertake follow up, risk assessment and support for clients who have sustained occupational exposure to blood borne viruses and to advice on an identified, liaise with the Occupational Health Physician to establish the need for post exposure prophylaxis
- Provide advice, screening and treatment (within parameters of approved Patient Group Directions), to clients regards work related infectious diseases exposure/contact
- Facilitate timely referral to allied health professionals, e.g. physiotherapy
- Facilitate and support clients in accessing counselling service
- Undertake peripatetic clinic work at various sites that will require transporting notes and equipment (manual handling)
- Support the delivery of the Winter Vaccine campaign in line with national guidance
