Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join general surgery department at Whiston hospital as a discharge co-ordinator.
This is an integral role to service and supports the wards with timely, safe and effective discharges through communication with patients, families, care agencies and social services.

Main duties of the job
The main duties of this role are to support our ward staff across 4A, 4B and 4C with complex discharges.
You will be expected to attend board rounds to discuss individuals on a daily basis and attend MDT meeting as required.
You will also be expected to communicate effectively with our patients and their families to achieve timely and safe discharges.
Excellent communication skills are vital to this role as you will be expected to liaise with the wider MDT within the hospital and outside agencies.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
