Medicine for Older People's Therapy Team

Band 6 - Specialist Physiotherapist

Permanent

37.5 hours per week (part time considered)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, hardworking, motivated Physiotherapist to join our Medicine for Older People Team, with the opportunity to also cover the outpatient clinic at St Helens hospital.

The successful candidate will have excellent clinical skills within the field of medicine for older people, be able to communicate effectively and have good organisational and time management skills. The ability to work both individually and a member of a team and to prioritise activity is a key requirement of this post. Previous experience within in this area is essential.

The team provides a 7 day service to the inpatient service at Whiston hospital and an out-patient service on Allen Day Unit at St Helens hospital working with a broad range of medical and neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will:

Deliver a high standard of evidence based care.

Be confident in their assessment and decision making.

Play a key role in the discharge planning process; including making recommendations about individual rehabilitation needs and discharge/placement requirements.

Have excellent skills in assessment and provision of equipment, including specialist manual handling equipment and of formulating written care plans.

Supervise therapy assistants; rotational Occupational Therapists and students on clinical placement within the specialty.

The ability to work closely with Physiotherapists and undertake generic therapy assessments and treatments to a basic level.

Have significant postgraduate experience as a junior therapist in a post with broad based rotational opportunities, including previous experience of working with medical patients.

Have the ability to work flexibly and adaptably to changing working patterns

Have a working knowledge of a broad range of conditions with proven clinical skills in this specialist area.

Will be proactive in identifying areas for, and actively contributing to audit, benchmarking and service development.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
