Critical Care Outreach Specialist Nurse

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Critical Care Outreach Nurse to join our well established 24 hour friendly Outreach team.

You will work within the CCOT to provide clinical expertise, knowledge and skill utilising clinical judgement and decision making in the care and management of acutely unwell patients, ensuring provision of a 24/7 CCOT service across Southport Hospital.

The role will include clinical and educational roles and will include some night work and unsocial hours.

Experience working as a band 5 critical care or AED Nurse is essential, with demonstration of leadership and managerial expertise but also have a desire to strive to provide excellence in patient care and experience.

Main duties of the job

Working within the critical care team will be supporting sick patients who have recently left the Intensive Care Unit, and responding to those at risk of deterioration.

  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with other departments to ensure a seamless service for our patients; support and train colleagues across Southport and Ormskirk Trust help them develop their own skills at this field
  • Implement national and Southport and Ormskirk Trust initiatives, demonstrate a systematic approach to policy and protocol development and review utilising best evidence
  • Working across all inpatient areas of Southport Hospital, the Outreach team will offer advanced critical care nursing skills to respond when needed and as part of the resuscitation team
  • Carry out advanced assessment and care of deteriorating patients leading to early intervention and treatment
  • NMC qualified
  • Able to show you have completed the Adult Critical Care/Intensive Care Course or equivalent
  • An ILS provider with an in date qualification
  • Degree level education or equivalent knowledge

Be an autonomous practitioner with the ability to work independently and resourcefully whilst working within a team.

Have the ability to manage a caseload effectively, demonstrating good time management skills.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
