Locum Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine

Job summary

This post is for a Locum Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine to cover Maternity leave. This is a 10 PA post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

Applicants are required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council at the time of appointment.

Main duties of the job

Clinical

The appointee along with existing doctors will be responsible to provide clinical care to patients attending our integrated sexual health services requiring genitourinary, HIV and sexual and reproductive health services e.g. provision of screening, treatment of infections, management of patients living with HIV and a full range of contraception including LARC methods, including:

  • All patients referred by their GP
  • All patients referred by the Emergency Medicine Department
  • All patients referred by internal & external specialities.
  • All patients who self-refer/walk in.
  • To participate in the delivery of an effective Integrated Sexual Health and HIV service, to meet national targets.

Professional Responsibilities

  • To work positively with colleagues to maintain clinically effective relationships.
  • To develop positive working relationships and provide consultation and advice to Community based specialist nurses, colleagues working in the Trust, General Practitioners, and voluntary sector agencies.
  • To attend departmental and external meetings and conferences with other agencies as required.
  • To participate in peer supervision with other professionals in the Service.
  • To ensure he/she comply with Trust Clinical Governance requirements.

Audit and Education

  • To undertake and supervise Audit projects.
  • To take part in departmental quality improvement activities as

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
