Band 6 MR Shift Radiographer - 1 WTE - 37.5 hours

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an MRI radiographer to join our busy MRI team at Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual to join our family-friendly team. Experience in MRI is desirable, but not essential as training will be given. The role is based in MRI but does include CT and plain film when required.The MRI shift covers 7 days per week across our 2 main hospitals on the previous St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals sites.

The department is extremely proactive and continually aims to improve its service to patients. Radiographers are actively encouraged to take part in clinical governance, audit, training and continuing professional development. There are active opportunities for role development within the department.

Our department at Whiston hospital contains a GE 1.5T Signa Voyager whilst our CDC at St Helens Hospital houses a GE 1.5T Signa Explorer Lift and a GE 3TSigna Pioneer. The department offers a full range of MRI examinations, including specialist services such as arthrography, breast and enterography.

Main duties of the job

To prioritise examination requests on the basis of clinical urgency

Participate in the shift, on-call and out of hours service for a range of modalities.

Perform radiographic examinations in accordance with departmental protocols

Be competent in the use of all appropriate imaging equipment

Maintain high standards of radiographic technique at all times

To modify and extend examination parameters and techniques as appropriate, making judgements based on clinical information provided prior to the examination, the clinical question posed, regionally and locally agreed clinical pathways and protocols, and interpretation of image appearances during the examination.

To ensure urgent critical findings are notified to the Radiologist for prompt action and escalation.

Be accountable for own professional actions; act as a role model for the team and lead by example.

Establish and maintain effective internal and external 2-way communication with patients and carers and work collaboratively with other professionals and agencies to ensure patient needs are met.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
