An exciting opportunity has arisen for dedicated Health Care Assistants to join our hard-working multi-disciplinary team within maternity service, in its deliverance of high quality care to our patients and their families.

Previous experience working within a Maternity Department is essential for this role, and the successful candidate will have the ability to work independently; undertaking tasks, whilst remaining under the supervision of midwives.

The post holder will assist in providing 5 star patient care and support to antenatal/postnatal women and their babies, phlebotomy, feeding support and advice, and maintenance of essential equipment.

Working as a health care assistant enables you to gain exposure to a wide range of skills and offers extensive scope for professional development under the supervision of midwives. The Trust provides an extensive range of in-house training and support in on-going professional development, with potential access to further opportunities.

The post holder must be flexible, as you will be expected to work flexible shifts, days & nights.

Main duties of the job

  • To support the qualified Midwifery Staff in the maintenance of high standards of care to patients.
  • To assist in providing an environment within the Department / Ward which is conducive to patient experience and pleasant for patients and their families
  • To work as part of the Midwifery Team undertaking household support tasks and direct care tasks as delegated by the Midwife in Charge.
  • To accept responsibility for specifically delegated functions within the Department / Ward which the Midwife in Charge feels are appropriate for untrained staff to undertake.
  • To ensure the Health and Safety of patients, relatives and other staff is considered and not prejudiced by the post-holder at any time.
  • To ensure that privacy and dignity of patients is paramount and is not compromised.
  • To ensure that all patient information is confidential and is not disclosed to a third party except with permission of the Midwife in Charge.
  • To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and which inspires confidence.

Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation, freeing up space for more unwell patients. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
