Job summary
Applicants are invited to apply for the whole time position of Specialty Doctor with an interest in Skin Cancer and General Plastic Surgery. Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust is one of the largest skin cancer Centre in the UK, and as such there is a need for continued development of services to optimise patient care as new treatment modalities evolve.
10 PAs plus an Additional PA (11 PAs in total).
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated surgeon to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary care both from the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit based at Whiston Hospital.

Acute Care
Providing emergency and maternity services at Whiston, Southport and Ormskirk hospitals, and medical and surgical specialties across all our sites.

Providing primary care services at Marshalls Cross Medical Centre situated in St Helens Hospital.
Community Services
Providing adult community services for St Helens and a wheelchair service in Chorley, South Ribble, and West Lancashire. Our inpatient unit at Newton Community Hospital is where patients needing acute hospital beds can continue rehabilitation. We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

- MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
- FRCS (Plastics) or equivalent medical qualification
- Hold a current registration with the GMC at the time of application
Clinical Experience

- Minimum 4 years post graduate experience with at least 2 years in Burns & Plastic Surgery
- Experience in the management of skin cancer and able to independently manage operative lists and clinics, including SLNB lists
- Experience of supervising Junior Medical Staff
- Experience or ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of problems within the specialty
- Experience and ability to contribute to the efficient and smooth running of a specialist service within an NHS setting
- Understanding of Research Concepts
- A minimum of two years' experience of a broad range of specialities
- An understanding of the latest guidelines for the management of skin cancers, and the role of SLNB in the management of melanoma and Merkel Cell carcinoma
