We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within the Anaesthetic Department at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals as a Locum Appointment for Service in Anaesthesia. Previous experience working and/or training in anaesthesia is essential. If the successful applicant does not already possess a successful Initial Assessment of Competence in anaesthesia they will be assessed within the first six months of employment against this standard.
The duties are based at Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals and the appointee will be expected to work across both sites and may occasionally, when required, be expected to travel between sites. It not anticipated that travel to other sites within the trust is expected within the role.

The appointee will participate in the provision of anaesthetic care for both elective and emergency surgery. The out of hours duties consist of participation in the anaesthetic resident rota, providing an emergency anaesthesia service 24 hours a day; this role will require attendance at cardiac arrest and major trauma calls as well as supporting the Critical Care team as required.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.
Specialist Regional Services
We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Participate as a member of the team of dedicated medical, nursing and allied healthcare professional staff, to provide anaesthetic services as needed, across Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals
Participate in clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and research activity within the department at S&O
Support the department at S&O in making the most efficient use of the resources available, thus be prepare to work flexibly and deputise, if appropriate, for absent colleagues and undertake additional duties in occasional emergencies or unforeseen circumstances
Be available, exceptionally, for irregular commitments outside the normally rostered duties, which are essential for the safety and continuity of patient care.
