Job summary
The Ophthalmic & ENT unit at Southport and Ormskirk NHS Hospital Trust has a vacancy for a full-time Registered Nurse.
We are looking for capable individual who is willing to develop their knowledge and skills withinthis specialist area.
We run very busy outpatient clinics across both hospital sites for both ophthalmology and Ear Nose and Throat patients.
We also run the Ophthalmic day case unit for our Ophthalmic surgical day cases.
The Registered Nurse has a vital role to play in supporting the day case unit and the specialist clinicsand training will be givento enable the successfulapplicant to undertake specialist skills.
Experience of working in these specialties is an advantage, but training will be given.
Working hours are routinely Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 17:30, for the outpatient department. The Ophthalmic day care unit runs over 5 days with shifts varying from earlies, a late shift and occasionally a long day. We do require some flexibility within the shift patterns.

Main duties of the job
To process patients before seeing the Ophthalmologist by assessing visual acuity/undertaking OCT scan/Blood pressure etc.
To support the Ophthalmologist/ENT surgeons during consultation.
To assist with clinical procedures.
To triage urgent referrals from A&E/Community Optoms/GP's/Walk in centres.
Undertake preop assessment for cataract/lid surgery.
To prepare patients on admission for cataract/glaucoma/lid surgery.

We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.
