Job summary
Applications are invited for a suitably qualified and experienced maxillofacial prosthetist to join the existing team providing scientific and technological services to the maxillofacial department in Aintree University Hospital.
The Post holder will deliver clinical, scientific and advisory services to patients undergoing reconstructive procedures or rehabilitation using implants, splints and prostheses.
The post holder will be based at Aintree University Hospitals and will work as part of the unit delivering 3D planning and printing services, osteotomy planning, prosthetic services and trauma splinting but will be employed by Mersey and West Lancashire Teachings Hospitals NHS Trust.
An Enhanced DBS with barred lists for both Adults & Children is required for this both.

KEY DUTIES
- To provide a prosthetic service to Aintree University Hospitals NHS Trust.
- To provide surgical and osteotomy planning assistance using digital planning software (Dolphin, Freeform, Mimics)
- To provide rehabilitation using facial prosthetics
- Provide splinting and trauma devices as required
CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Instruct and train STPs and other medical and nursing staff as required, in the practice of prosthetics technology
- Responsible for clinics in the prosthetics department to assess and review patients and provide prostheses as necessary.
- To deliver 3D Planning Services
- Carry out invasive procedures in OP clinic or operating theatre within specified time frames i.e, complex intra-ocular impressions, fitting tissue/prosthetic abutments to osseointegrated implant fixtures, surgical planning for osteotomy patients
- Fit or activate as required splint device, appliances or prostheses in clinic/operating theatre
- Work with MPTs to assist in the organisation of referrals from medical and surgical disciplines and action as necessary, in the best interest of patient care, with regard to clinical need/priority, currently accepted best practice, resource availability and other non-clinical dynamics.
- Provide direct support for MPTs, and other staff during difficult patient contact episodes or meetings with other healthcare professionals (case conferencing etc) that affects the prosthetic service.

PROFESSIONAL LEADERSHIP
- Assist in the delivery, within allocated resources, for prosthetic service across all relevant disciplines. Provide technical /clinical support for the Trusts special programmes:

- 3D digital planning and printing service
- Collaborate with lead prosthetist to advise and give specific details concerning delivery of prosthetic services and requirements for specialist support i.e. Scheduling activity for elective surgery lists
- Collaborate with prosthetic lead regarding ongoing changes in referral patterns and clinical demand, on a regional basis
- Advise, inform and provide guidance to prosthetic lead with regard to profession wide issues/policies directly concerning the delivery of prosthetic services i.e. Ensure current health and safety and COSH legislation is observed and complied with, to include all laboratory equipment and materials. Laboratory cross infection policy.
- Be accountable for MDA/MHRA regulations in the delivery of prosthetics. Ensure implantable devices are fully traceable- i.e. Osseointegrated Implants, Cranial Implants, deep buried implants.
- Give public presentations and scientific papers at meetings and conferences (nationally and internationally), on the Trusts behalf, to publicise the work of the unit/Trust and inform of specialty service.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the post.
- To be responsible as issuing clinician for medical device compliance with MD
STAFF DEVELOPMENT
- Empower trainees, support them in developing their role and ensuring high standards of patient care are maintained.

- Assist in implementing systematic benchmarking of patient safety and quality indicators in all areas of responsibility. Take actions as necessary to facilitate that standards are reached.
- Actively promote awareness of infection prevention and control using best practice to reduce the potential for cross infection.

- Provide clinical expertise and advice on clinical risk issues associated with management of patient care.
- Demonstrate a high level of commitment to and enthusiasm for research, audit and education in the clinical area.
- Promote and maintain an evidence-based practice culture for prosthetic staff.

- Ensure the principles of governance are fully incorporated into the operation of the unit.
