An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Mersey Regional Plastic Surgery Team as an Advanced Hand Therapy Specialist Practitioner at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

The successful candidate will work as part of the Trauma team of clinicians and as part of the hand therapy team to provide an effective streamlined consistent evidence-based service for patients. Appropriate mentorship and clinical supervision will be offered by Consultant Colleagues.

With increased experience and training (which will be formally assessed), it is expected that the successful candidate will lead a joint and soft tissue injection clinic. Where suitable; it would be expected that the post holder would work towards independent prescribing for a selected client group. This would form part of the assessment for band 8A annex 21

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate skills in communication, co-ordination of care and an ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team whilst promoting good working relationships at all times. Providing excellent patient experience is critical for all our patients and you will play a key role in ensuring that patient experience is optimised through accessible and effective communication with compassion and empathy.

Self-motivation is essential along with passion, drive, adaptability, and resilience to cope with periods of change within the Hospital Trust and wider NHS.

The hours of work will be flexible over 37.5 per week, the work pattern will be agreed with the successful post holder on appointment.

An Enhanced DBS Certificate with the checking of both the Children's and Adults' Barred Lists is required for this post.

To work in secondary care in across a variety of hospital settings including trauma assessment unit, ward, hand clinic and outpatients.

To deputise for senior staff as appropriate within the hands service.

The Advanced Clinician will take high level responsibility for the triage, clinical assessment and diagnosis of complex health and wellbeing needs within a defined sphere of practice. They will implement, evaluate, and modify highly complex care/ interventions which they have developed to meet those needs. The Advanced Clinician will provide high level care as specified below for a client group and work across professional disciplines.

With increased experience and training (which will be formally assessed), it is expected that the successful candidate will lead a joint and soft tissue injection clinic. Where suitable; it would be expected that the post holder would work towards independent prescribing for a selected client group. This would form part of the assessment for band 8A transition.

Providing education and training for the MDT as appropriate to role.

Delivering high level and complex triage, clinical assessment, diagnostics, treatment, and evaluation of the needs within the trust.

Providing leadership; promoting a learning culture for colleagues and other agencies; leading service innovations and demonstrating high level problem solving.
