Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 6 pelvic floor nurse specialist to join our established pelvic floor team.
The successful candidate will play a key role in providing excellent patient care in improving the quality of life for patients with pelvic floor/bowel dysfunction.
The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be to work together with the consultant team, lead nurse and other clinical nurse specialists and multidisciplinary team members in providing a unique specialist service for patients with pelvic floor/bowel dysfunction managing conditions such as constipation, haemorrhoids, anal fissure, rectocele, rectal prolapse who will undergo conservative management or surgical procedures intended to improve these conditions.
This will include both inpatient support and outpatient clinics to provide assessments, treatments, and support on discharge for patients with pelvic floor dysfunction liaising with community continence teams and other allied health care professionals.
The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated, dedicated with a passion for excellence in patient care, along with excellent communication organisational skills.
Relevant experience in pelvic floor /bowel care is required, although training will be provided.
An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of both the Children's and Adults' Barred Lists is required for this post.

-Develop and implement care pathways to ensure patients with bowel dysfunction receive planned care or onward referral to the MDT in a timely manner
-Coordinate the MDT
-Triage patients referred to the pelvic floor service
-Be the link between primary and secondary care
-Provide information, advice and support on all aspects of faecal incontinence to patients, families and carers
-Assess and provide a rectal irrigation service
-Give written and verbal information to patients / carers regarding the treatment and management of bowel dysfunction.
-Support the diagnostics that are undertaken in relation to the pelvic floor service
-Demonstrate competence in undertaking physical examinations including DRE
-Be an independent nurse prescriber able to prescribe and administer treatments or offer advice regarding medication options for bowel dysfunction
-Provide telephone advice for patients, families and carers
-Organise and manage nurse led F2F / Telephone clinics
-Participate in health promotion, patient education and patient self-management programmes to promote self-care

- Flexibly respond to the demands of the environment including unpredictable work patterns, deadlines and frequent interruptions.
- Provide specialised advice in relation to the management and education of patients as appropriate.
- Ensure that the patients privacy and dignity is maintained at all times.
- Record personally generated clinical observations and maintains a high standard of record keeping
- Take lead responsibilities within care teams using negotiating, motivating and persuasive communication skills to overcome barriers in co-operation.
- Demonstrate empathy with patients and their families, ensuring that effective communication is achieved particularly where poor understanding exists.
- Supervision of junior staff members, identifying any training and development needs.
