Job summary
Applications are invited for two full-time posts offering an exciting opportunity for highly motivated individuals to join a dynamic urology service at the newly formed Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (previously St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals Trust and now incorporating Southport & Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust).
The successful applicant will join an existing team of 9 substantive Consultant Urologists offering comprehensive Urological services including advanced endourology, reconstruction, robotic and laparoscopic upper tract surgery, female and functional, andrology and core urological procedures. They are supported by a large team of SAS doctors, trainee doctors and nurse specialists across the sites.
Candidates should be fully registered with the GMC, possess FRCSUrol or equivalent and be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within 6 months of the date of interview. CESR candidates must have written GMC confirmation of successful application.
The job plan will be discussed and agreed with the Clinical Directors on appointment and will consider the appointee's preferences. As described, below future service reconfiguration may necessitate job plan changes.

Main duties of the job
Urological services are provided across 4 hospital sites (Whiston, St Helens, Southport and Ormskirk) with consultants participating in an out of hours on call service covering all sites. This is supported by 2 separate middle grade rotas, each individually supporting an acute site (Whiston and Southport). A clinical transformation group in urology has been established to define the most effective model for delivering future urology services across the organisation. All consultants are committed to any future service reconfigurations which will improve patient care and are leading this process.
Post 1 -
This is a core general urology post with a focus on Male bladder outflow obstruction. The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported to help improve and develop the trusts day case bladder outflow surgery pathway. They will be expected to have experience and expertise in HOLEP along with less invasive surgical treatments on offer for BPH. Planned sessions at this stage will be on the Whiston / St Helens sites including participation in the Whiston 'hotweek'.
Post 2 -
This is a core general urology post with a stone and endourology special interest. Planned sessions at this stage will be on the Southport and Ormskirk sites including responsibility for week day daytime emergencies at Southport.
