Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Gynaecology Clinic at St Helens & Whiston Hospital for dynamic Nurse Hysteroscopist to join the team of dedicated nursing staff in the Gynaecology Department.

Our Gynaecology services provided include;

  • Rapid Access - Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit
  • Rapid Access Clinics for post-menopausal bleeding / hysteroscopy
  • Colposcopy
  • Cancer Surgery as part of the Cheshire & Merseyside Cancer Network
  • Urology
  • Minor Procedures
  • Major & Day Case Surgery
  • Vulval Clinics

We are looking for a highly motivated professional to join our Gynaecology Team. The post holder must be enthusiastic with a passion for excellence within the delivery of patient care, and be able to work effectively as a member of the team. You must possess a caring, compassionate and positive manner, and have excellent communication skills. A flexible approach to the working environment is essential for this post.

We are pleased to inform you that the plans for St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Southport and Ormskirk Hospital NHS Trust to come together as one new organisation have now been formally approved by the Secretary of State. Our new Trust will be called Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and will officially launch on Saturday 1st July 2023.

KEY DUTIES

  • The post holder would practice autonomously within the clinics outlined in the job summary
  • They would be responsible for providing a diagnostic and treatment service for women with suspected or confirmed Gynaecological malignancy and managing these patients accordingly

CLINICAL & PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Practise at all times within the Nursing and Midwifery Council Code of Practice
  • To attend mandatory training as required
  • To present an appearance which gives a positive image of the Trust and a manner which is appropriate and inspires confidence
  • To ensure fulfilment of the requirements for professional updating and maintain a personal record for future registration purposes
  • Work within and monitor standards of care within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the unit to ensure the delivery of a high quality of service
  • To ensure privacy and dignity of patients
  • Ensure effective communication processes to meet the needs of patients, relatives and other members of the multidisciplinary team

  • Collecting data for and presenting audits
  • Responsible for managing/preparing cases for any appropriate MDT meetings
  • Assist / Support the Matron in maintaining ESR and clinic rotas

TEACHING & TRAINING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a mentor and support staff through clinical supervision
  • To create a friendly, approachable and professional climate conducive to learning for all staff and students
  • Maintain established links with the university of healthcare
  • Responsible for providing formal teaching sessions on own specialist subject

LINE MANAGEMENT/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To deputise for other colleagues as the service requires
  • Responsible for the annual appraisal of less senior members of the team
  • Lead and support staff within the nursing team to ensure development needs are met
  • Ensure that equipment is maintained, in safe working order and consumables are managed in a financially effective way
