We are looking for dynamic and motivated individual to join our senior team on Ward 3E Orthopaedics . A flexible approach to the working environment is essential for this position, as the successful candidates will be expected to rotate from day to night duty.
An Enhanced DBS Certificate with the checking of both Children's and Adults' Barred Lists is required for this position.
Main duties of the job
The Trauma and Orthopaedic Directorate works across both Whiston and St Helens Hospitals providing day case, in-patient and out-patient services to elective and non-elective patients.
Orthopaedics is a fast paced, busy and active environment with a high turnover of patients, consisting of 63 in-patient beds, with a dedicated Orthopaedic Admission lounge for elective and non elective patients.
The post holder will be designated to take charge, lead and direct a team of staff at Band 5 and below, whilst ensuring and maintaining the safe delivery of quality patient care. The post holder will be expected to maintain the care standards in the absence of the Ward Manager and to foster close working relationships within the multidisciplinary team, leading the daily board rounds and participating in the daily Trauma meeting.
The post holder is required to be enthusiastic with a passion for excellence within the delivery of patient care, be able to work as a member of the team and will continue to help provide high standards of care. The successful candidate must possess a compassionate and positive manner, with excellent communication skills and the ability to 'CARE'

KEY DUTIES
- To act as clinical expert for nursing issues
- To supervise junior staff in the delivery of safe competent care
- Take appropriate action to address any issues or risk
- Promote a patient focused multi-disciplinary approach to care in collaboration with carers, health care professionals and other AHPs
- Ensure a safe and timely discharge / transfer of patients
- Ensure that treatment prescribed by the medical team are carried out and that changes in patient condition are escalated as appropriate
- Lead and contribute to the daily board rounds and the daily trauma meeting ensuring that the decisions/outcomes from these meetings are clearly communicated to staff, patients and carers/relatives.
