Job summary

An exciting development opportunity has arisen for two full time Band 6 Specialist Nurses within the Developmental paediatric service.

The Developmental Paediatric Service provides a wide range of specialities for patients from the St Helens & Knowsley area. This role is to support the Paediatric service in covering clinics from 09:00 - 17:00.

The service provides treatment and coordination for a range of neurodevelopmental diagnosis including Global development delay and complex chromosomal conditions such as Down syndrome as well as diagnostics and treatment for ADHD.

An Enhanced DBS Certificate, with the checking of the Children's Barred Lists is required for this post.

Main duties of the job

The Specialist Nurse will offer liaison, advice and support and clinical input to Patients with a diagnosis of ADHD, ASD and other Neurodevelopmental diagnoses. This will also include working with families and colleagues, both internally and externally to the Trust as required. The post holder will hold diagnostic clinics and initial assessments of children with a neurodevelopmental issues, as well as ongoing medication reviews.

To run nurseled diagnostic clinics, demonstrating the ability to work as an autonomous practitioner including the reading and recording of the clinical observations of each child and the ongoing assessment of the effectiveness of treatment packages, ensuring compliance with professional practice and NICE guidance

To provide advice to parents on behavioural management, including challenging behaviours at home and sleep problems in children and young people

To act as a link between home and school, ensuring expertise is focused on home management but able to advise in settings, where appropriate

To liaise and share appropriate information, at appropriate points in the child / young persons care, with other professionals.

To work closely with Community Paediatricians and Allied Health Professionals to support children with additional needs, including providing group support where appropriate.

To develop and manage own Nurse led ADHD clinics. To monitor and review progress in accordance with NICE guidance, local policies, or clinical condition, including monitoring blood pressure, heart rate, growth and behaviour and to provide required information for Community Paediatricians and other clinics, including side effects of medication.

To offer phone consultations in order to offer a fast response service

To take clinical responsibility for a varied paediatric caseload of differing complexities and to organise this effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time

To ensure that clients are involved in the planning and prioritisation of their treatment plans wherever possible.
