Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Trust Foundation Year 1 Doctor

The closing date is 07 April 2026

Job summary

Applications are invited from doctors who will have GMC registration by the beginning of August 2026 to fill a Trust F1 level doctor vacancy.

Main duties of the job

F1 doctors work under the supervision of their consultant(s) and their duties during the normal working day are entirely ward based. Out of Hours work includes night shifts on surgical and medical rotas.

All F1 doctors get plenty of experience of dealing with sick patients under supervision and admitting patients in the Acute Medical Unit and the Surgical Assessment Unit.

Each F1 will do at least 4 months in a medical specialty and 4 months in a surgical specialty post and one other 4 month post in either A&E, Medicine or Surgery/Orthopaedics.

All F1 posts are paid according to the salary associated with the new contract work schedule for the post.

There is prospective cover which means that the post-holder has to cover when colleagues are on annual leave.

These posts start with a 7-day induction and provide similar experience and training to the nationally appointed foundation doctors in a well renowned learning environment.

The posts are initially for 12 months but are usually extended to include F2 level experience including 4 months in Emergency Medicine.

Teaching and training is provided with deanery appointed F1s.
