Health Care Assistant - Ward M1
The closing date is 19 February 2026
Job summary
M1 is a 30-bed medically optimised older adult ward that also supports up to 10 escalation beds during periods of increased demand. The ward provides care for patients who are clinically stable but require ongoing nursing support, monitoring, and discharge planning. M1 is not a rehabilitation ward; however, preventing de-conditioning and maintaining independence are key priorities within the patient's agreed care plan.
The ward predominantly supports frail older adults with complex needs, including cognitive impairment, reduced mobility, and long-term conditions. When required, M1 also supports a small number of dermatology patients (typically 1-2) to assist with patient flow across the Trust.
The Healthcare Assistant plays a vital role in delivering high-quality, compassionate, and person-centred care under the supervision of registered nurses. The post holder will support patients with activities of daily living, nutrition and hydration, safe mobilisation, and comfort, while promoting dignity, independence, and wellbeing.
The ward aims to support patients to return to their usual place of residence wherever possible; however, some patients may require ongoing discharge planning while awaiting assessment beds, rehabilitation placements or 24-hour care homes. Healthcare Assistants contribute to a safe ward environment, effective teamwork, and positive patient and family experience.
