Neonatal Support Worker

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen to join our Neonatal Team as a Neonatal Support Worker.

We are a 24-cot Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Level 3, within the Cheshire and Mersey Neonatal Network. Providing care for infants and their families from 22 weeks and above.

The successful candidates will be working within the Neonatal Nursing team caring for babies in the Special Care Nursery on the Neonatal Unit and on our Transitional Care Unit based on the Maternity Ward.

Main duties of the job

The key responsibilities of this role is to assist and support, registered Neonatal Nurses and Nursing teams on the Maternity and Children's Wards in the delivery of safe and effective neonatal care. Duties will include:

  • Providing safe and effective care for the neonate and mother/family in the NeonatalUnit, Transitional Care Unit and Children's Ward.
  • Implementing and evaluating care planned by a registered practitioner and report any changes to the infant's condition which may require a change in the planned care.
  • Assisting with the hygiene needs of the infant in partnership with the family.
  • Assisting with infant feeding including: breast feeding, bottle feeding and tube feeding.
  • Performing routine observations and documenting them clearly, reporting any concerns to the registered practitioner.
  • Taking blood samples for testing.
  • Safely using the appropriate equipment in the neonatal area.
  • Supporting, encouraging and preparing parents for discharge home.
  • Taking and providing hand over of patients both formally and informally.
  • Undertaking discharge planning in conjunction with multi-disciplinary team.
