Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint an ambitious, highly motivated, and dynamic substantive Consultant Stroke Physician to join our Stroke Department at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals (NHS) Foundation Trust.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a friendly, enthusiastic, and passion focused driven stroke team and contribute to the growth and strategic development of the stroke services as a consultant Stroke Physician at Wirral University Teaching Hospital (NHS) Foundation Trust (WUTH). Our focus is on driving improvements within stroke services and these positions offer an opportunity to share our stroke vision and contribute to enhancing high quality stroke care and reducing the variation of care across Wirral and Cheshire.
The successful candidate would support the delivery of an inpatient (1 in 6) consultant of the week model on HASU, shared responsibility for stroke rehabilitation patients and outpatient rapid access clinics. On-call rota is stroke speciality only currently 1 in 7. There would be opportunity to progress / develop speciality interest in research, education, or leadership and management.
This is a full time (10 programmed activities) post for a Consultant Stroke Physician, with potential job plans outlined within the job description, but for negotiation with the successful candidates.
Main duties of the job
- The post-holder will work closely with the other Stroke Physicians to provide a comprehensive Stroke Service.
- The post holder will be a member of the stroke team and will perform daily acute stroke ward rounds during the period of acute stroke physician of the week which will occur 1 week in 7 weeks
- The post holder will provide the senior medical component of the hyper acute stroke thrombolysis service and triage for the TIA Rapid Assessment service during the stroke week.
- The post holder will provide cover for the out of hours hyper acute stroke rota for assessment for stroke thrombolysis and remote hyperacute assessment/advice on a 1 in 7 basis. Provision will bemade for compensatory rest to be taken on the day after any significant disturbance after midnight.
- The appointee will also be responsible for the ongoing care of the following inpatients:- Arrowe Park Hospital Step Down Stroke ward rounds twice weekly on named patients on Ward 23average 8 patients, and advice for 18 beds- Clatterbridge Hospital Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, average 5 beds
- The appointee will have 1-2 rapid access TIA / Stroke review clinics per week with access to same day Doppler, CT and MRI imaging. The usual clinic template is 3 new / 6 follow up.
