An exciting opportunity has arisen on Ward 18 for a Ward Manager position. This is a full-time post.
Ward 18 has 30 inpatient beds and provides high quality care for patients undergoing a wide range of general surgical procedures, offering excellent opportunities to develop your surgical nursing skills.
The successful candidate will need excellent leadership skills, be adaptable to an ever-changing clinical environment and demonstrate expert clinical skills. They will also need to communicate well with the ward team, the wider Emergency General Surgical team, urology and upper GI teams and the wider surgical divisional team. This is an excellent opportunity to further develop your leadership skills within a friendly and experienced team.
Main duties of the job
Leading the ward staff to ensure that we are creating a therapeutic environment for patients and their relatives.
Management of staff absence in line with trust policies.
Managing the ward finances within the planned budget.
Dealing with staff issues in a supportive manner with consideration of the necessary Human resource policies and procedures
Implement a culture of continuous clinical development by using an analytical approach to the delivery of care.
Respond to complaints from patients/ relatives/ carers within trust timeframes ensuring that appropriate actions are taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Undertake regular ward audits to assess ward performance and use this data to guide change management initiatives, involving ward staff in these initiatives.
Develop a positive culture of staff development through staff appraisals, regular check ins and training. This will help identify people's strengths and weaknesses, enable constructive feedback and support for staff to be able to develop their contribution.
Support Deputy Managers to maximise their potential and develop leadership skills.
Keep own skills and knowledge up to date and be aware of clinical issues within the ward, surgical division, and wider hospital.
Ensure a good understanding of patient flow and NHS pressures and maintain good relationships with other departments so that we can support patient flow.
