Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our Therapies Department in the dynamic 1st floor (orthopaedic) team as a full time Occupational Therapist (Band 6). The team covers both Arrowe Park and Clatterbridge General Hospitals working across elective and emergency orthopaedic surgery and our regional elective surgical hub working closely with our multidisciplinary teams.

We are looking for enthusiastic candidates to come and join us and can support flexible working requests. The team has an office base on each site, and assessment space available to them.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have the opportunity to gain experience in working across our busy Surgical and Orthopaedic wards. This is an exciting opportunity to join our senior occupational therapy team looking to provide opportunities to develop band 6 skills across a number of clinical settings.

There are opportunities to engage in training and development, innovative practice and service development.

You will have professional support for your CPD from the Clinical Lead OT (Band 7) and support other Senior Occupational Therapists. The team is a mix of OTs and physios with support from assistants to focus on patient centred care as part of the wider MDT.

The post may also require working with the other inpatient therapy teams to provide senior therapy support.

Essential

  • Basic computer skills
  • Well developed theoretical knowledge under pinning Occupational Therapy practice
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Good analytical, problem solving and clinical reasoning skills

Desirable

  • Ability to communicate within difficult circumstances and demonstrate empathetic approach to patients
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), analytical, problem solving skills and clinical reasoning
  • Understanding of national issues and relating them to own clinical practice

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • Graduate Diploma or BSc Occupational Therapy or equivalent qualification recognised by HCPC (or student Occupational Therapist with qualification pending)
  • HCPC registration
  • Active collection of relevant CPD in portfolio
  • Appropriate experience as a qualified Occupational Therapist
  • Previous care experience
  • Core Rotations as an Occupational Therapist in a range of core areas: o Orthopaedics o Medical or Frailty Inpatients o Neurological Rehabilitation
  • Experience working as part of multidisciplinary team

Desirable

  • Member of Royal College of Occupational Therapists or similar
  • High level of clinical reasoning with excellent theoretical knowledge underpinning practice
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of needs of patient and appropriate action to take
