The Pharmacy department at WUTH have an exciting opportunity for motivated pharmacists who want to be at the cutting edge of pharmacy service development to join our welcoming and innovative team.
The post presents excellent opportunities to enhance your expertise and to develop further into specialist roles including outpatient clinic support, prescribing roles and ward rounds.
Our Band 7 rotations are 6 or 12 months in duration and provide opportunities to experience various clinical specialties, as well as chances to work in operational roles such as clinical governance, medicines management, antimicrobial stewardship, aseptics and education and training.
The successful applicant will need to be self-motivated and organised with excellent communication and interpersonal skills. They should have the ability to work effectively alone and as part of a team.
Main duties of the job
You will work closely with the wider clinical pharmacy team to maximise medicines optimisation by:
- Optimising individual patient's medicines, including supporting patient flow and antimicrobial stewardship
- Developing a role as a key member of the multidisciplinary team
- Supporting the training and education of junior pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, technicians and other healthcare staff.
- Participation in formulary management and financial monitoring of drug expenditure with directorate pharmacists
- Developing, implementing and monitoring prescribing guidelines.
- Participating in weekend and on-call working as part of departmental rotas.
Full training and an extensive CPD programme are provided, along with opportunities to attend annual conferences such as UKCPA and Clinical Pharmacy Congress.
About us
We are a large department, employing 95 pharmacists and 47 MMTs that deliver services to the acute hospital and PCN. High quality, proactive input is expected by our clinicians, nursing staff and patients; as such over half of our pharmacists are independent prescribers, actively using this qualification to prescribe for patients on wards, clinics and in the PCN.
We are highly innovative department; recently winning, or being shortlisted, for national awards within surgery, antimicrobial stewardship and PCN. Therefore, the successful applicant is expected to develop this role to meet the needs of patients across Wirral.
