Job summary
The Trainee Echocardiographer will be employed for a fixed term of 18 months during which time they will work through a programme of learning. In conjunction with and supported by the Designated Training Officer, the Trainee Echocardiographer will be responsible for their own progression through the training programme, completing a mixture of work based competence and experience in NHS scientific departments, completing the learning outcomes as outlined in the Curriculum Library, undertaking the complementary academic Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography and preparing for and completing the BSE Transthoracic Accreditation process.
At all times the Trainee Echocardiographer is expected to work within standard operating policies and procedures of the host department and NHS organisation and adhere to high standards of professionalism, health and safety, risk reduction, confidentiality, patient care and dignity, and respect for equality and diversity as set out in the NHS Constitution.
The Trainee Echocardiographer will be employed by the host department for a fixed term of 18 months during which time they will work through a programme of learning. This will be combined with an academic programme at Post Graduate level over the first year of the programme.
Main duties of the job
Trainees will undertake a Post Graduate Certificate in Clinical Echocardiography at a designated academic institution specific for the training pathway.
Trainees will mainly be based in the host department but may need to attend other local/regional/national scientific services, in order to complete the required pathway work based curricula, as deemed appropriate by the Designated Training Officer Trainees will be a part of a national training programme and will be registered with the National School of Healthcare Science based in the West Midlands Multi-Professional Workforce Deanery.
The post holder will be expected to undertake a range of scientific and clinicalfunctions initially under supervision. A major part of the training and development
will take place within a specified host NHS organisation and is integrally linked to theknowledge and applied learning that forms part of the nationally recognised BSEaccreditation programme. Post holders will also be expected to undertakemandatory training as deemed necessary by their host NHS Organisation.

Essential
- ETP applicants must have a 1st or 2:1 in either an undergraduate honours degree or an integrated master's degree in Cardiac Physiology or a relevant scientific subject.. A 2:2 undergraduate honours degree in Cardiac Physiology (PTP) plus relevant cardiology experience and approval from the relevant Higher Education Institution (HEI).
- A 2:2 undergraduate honours degree plus relevant higher degree excluding MSc in Echocardiography.
- An alternative or vocational qualification plus sufficient and relevant experience and appropriate underpinning knowledge and skills in cardiology, as evidenced by registration on the Academy for Healthcare Science, Accredited Healthcare Science Practitioner Register and approval from the relevant Higher Education Institution.
- Level of English Competency The following will help you to demonstrate meeting these standards: Being a national of a majority English speaking country or having worked in an organisation/institution where English is the primary language. Pursued part of university level education in the UK. Hold a degree or relevant educational qualification that was taught in English by a recognised institution abroad. Pass an English language competency test. If you have obtained a Skilled Worker visa to apply to the programme, you will have already demonstrated English language skills as part of the visa application process. Evidence of passing the test set by the Home Office should be provided. If English is not your first language, you will also have to demonstrate to the Higher Education Institution (HEI) the necessary knowledge of English to meet the entry requirements and enrol on the MSc course.
