Job summary

The post holder is responsible for the co-ordination of clinical governance procedures and frameworks within Maternity & Neonatal Services, ensuring systems are in place to effectively manage clinical risk. The post holder will provide leadership, guidance and expertise within the multi-professional team on clinical governance and risk management.

This post supports the quality and governance agenda within Maternity and is key to ensuring that nursing, midwifery and medical practice is safe, evidence based and up-to-date. The post holder will be responsible for the oversight and monitoring of incidents and presentation of key performance indicators including the monitoring and review of action plans and recommendations from Serious Incidents.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have an enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.

As this vacancy is within the division of Womens and Childrens, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £16 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust. Further details of how to join the update service will be provided upon appointment.

Qualifications, specific experience and training

Essential

  • Clinical Qualification (e.g. Registered Midwife with NMC)
  • Educated to Degree Level or equivalent relevant experience
  • Extensive experience as a Band 6
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation
  • Knowledge of risk management and national quality improvement processes
  • Expert midwifery skills and knowledge
  • Knowledge of the risk management process. Can demonstrate a broad understanding of women's health needs within the context of changing health care provision

Desirable

  • Root Cause Analysis training
  • Professional Midwifery Advocate

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Can demonstrate a forward thinking approach towards midwifery care, women's choice and student learning
  • Ability to produce and deliver presentations and or teaching to mixed audiences
  • Use of internal computer systems: - Cerner Millennium - BadgetNet - Ulysses Reporting System
  • Experience of collating portfolios of evidence for assurances against external recommendations or standards
  • Good working knowledge of up-to-date IT software packages such as Microsoft Word, and Excel Spreadsheets
