We are looking to recruit an experienced prescribing pharmacist to join our Emergency Department Pharmacy team.

This role is highly valued by both the pharmacy and ED teams and has demonstrated improved patient outcomes with more efficient patient flow, higher compliance with medicines reconciliation targets and VTE policies. You will be joining a supportive team including a Pharmacist ACP, Technician and established Highly Specialist Pharmacist.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive prescribing pharmacist to join our forward-thinking team and help optimise medicines in our emergency department.

You will be expected to integrate into the multidisciplinary team alongside clinicians, nursing colleagues, advanced nurse practitioners and pharmacy staff to deliver the highest quality pharmaceutical care for our patients in the emergency setting.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with pharmacy, nursing, medical and management teams, you will lead on improving how patient's medicines are optimised within the Emergency Department.

o Reviewing patients with acute and complex needs as part of the MDT

o Developing, implementing and monitoring prescribing guidelines;

o Financial monitoring of drug expenditure;

o Supporting the training and education of pharmacists, Medicines Management Technicians (MMTs) and other healthcare staff;

o Promoting the medicines optimisation and medicines safety agenda;

o Participating in other clinical activities such as clinical audit and practice research;

o Collaborating with other system organisations, including Wirral CCG, MLCSU, CWP, community pharmacy and WCHC.

The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, organised person with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and can work effectively under pressure, both alone and as part of a team then we want you to join our team.

About us

We are a large department, employing 95 pharmacists and 47 MMTs that deliver services to the acute hospital and primary care network (PCN). High quality, proactive input is expected by our clinicians, nursing staff and patients; as such over half of our pharmacists are independent prescribers, actively using this qualification to prescribe for patients on wards, clinics and in the PCN.

We are highly innovative department with award winning pharmacists; recently winning, or shortlisted for national awards within surgery, antimicrobial stewardship and PCN. The successful applicant is expected to develop this role to meet the needs of patients across Wirral.
