Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity in Gynaecology for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated Sonographer with Post Graduate Certificate in early pregnancy and gynaecology scanning to come and join our friendly and supportive team in gynaecology.

We are looking for a suitable candidate for this post that is a HCPC registered qualified Sonographer with great communication skills, a team player and enthusiastic about the role of ultrasound within Gynaecology care. The role will cover scanning in our Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Assessment Unit, Rapid Diagnostics Service, Fertility Service (including Hycosy) and general Gynaecology.

Main duties of the job

  • Undertaking clinical examinations on patients referred for Ultrasound scans.
  • Providing reports on all own obstetric scans.
  • Providing reports on all "normal" general ultrasound scans.
  • Providing observations on all "abnormal" general ultrasound scans.
  • Ensuring that equipment is used safely, appropriately and only for the task for which it was designed, reporting any malfunctions to the Superintendent 3 Sonographer.
  • Ensuring the care and comfort of patients in the department and in particular when the examination is being undertaken.
  • Maintaining a safe and tidy working environment and high standards of equipment cleanliness.
  • Observing and maintaining the highest possible working standards.
  • Prioritising own workload, organising and executing work effectively, identifying and managing risks to quality of care or service.
  • Preparing individuals, environment, equipment and materials appropriately prior to each procedure.
  • Performing any tasks for which a radiographer has received training, including those normally performed by other staff, e.g. clerical and nursing duties.
  • Supporting student radiographers, trainee Sonographers, Midwives and Specialist Registrars during their practical training in the department, as required.
  • Undertaking mandatory training when requested and to being responsible for seeking other professional training to ensure knowledge is kept up to date.

If successful in this role, there is a requirement for you to have a enhanced DBS. This will be paid for by the Trust and then deducted from your salary over a period of 3 month.

As this vacancy is within the division of Womens and Childrens, there is a mandatory requirement for successful applicants to join the DBS update service. The cost of joining the update service is £13 per year, and applicants are liable to cover this cost with no reimbursement from the Trust.
